Taylor University COS 280 whole class project from the early 2000’s that includes a LEGO robotic piece-moving system, computer vision to detect board state changes, and backend chess AI to control the game. The AI challenged Dr. Jim Spiegel to a public contest. The AI ended up losing, but the whole project was pretty nice, had a number of spectators for the challenge match, and ended up being reported in the Taylor University newspaper.
