WORKSHOP: Wednesday 1/13:The Art of Directing, using play analysis to enchance productions

Script analysis for the director can take many forms. The Kirkian analysis method (From John Kirk’s textbook The Art of Directing). of analyzing scripts for the director is succinct and strongly tied to making directoral choices that create productions with a focus. The workshop will involve the a group reading of a short play and the introduction of terms and procedures. This approach is like chess – easy to learn, and a challenge to master. I will introduce the approach and lead a discussion about how the correct analysis can be revealed in blocking and coaching choices, leading to a better production.
